Our friend, Jeffrey Munroe, has recently published a book titled, Reading Buechner: exploring the work of a master memoirist, novelist, theologian, and preacher.
Here are some of Dr. Munroe’s thoughts on Telling Secrets:
‘In Telling Secrets, Buechner jumps in quickly, grabs the reader by the collar, and doesn’t let go. […] First sentences make promises, and the promise that begins Telling Secrets is, appropriately enough, that secrets will be divulged – in this case secrets about his father’s death. I have read Telling Secrets at least a dozen times, and every time I have to put it down after about five pages and take a deep breath. I return to it over and over because I find its honesty and insight irresistible.’ (p.43-4)
