Dr James K.A. Smith is Professor of Philosophy at Calvin University and serves as Editor in Chief of Image, a quarterly journal devoted to “art, mystery, and faith.”

An award-winning author and critic, his books include Who’s Afraid of Postmodernism? (2006), Desiring the Kingdom (2009), How (Not) To Be Secular (2014), You Are What You Love (2016), On the Road with Saint Augustine (2019) and How to Inhabit Time (2022). His essays and criticism have appeared in magazines and publications including LitHub, Los Angeles Review of Books, Harvard Divinity Bulletin, Christian Century, and the Jesuit magazine, America.

Smith describes Buechner as an “exemplar” of a Christian writer both because Buechner prized the craft of writing as an art form but also for the honesty and vulnerability of his memoirs.
